How Do You See Yourself

James 1:23 “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.”

The glass in this verse is referring to the Word of God. The natural face is what you inherited. You look into the Word and see what God says about you. You say, “Look what I’ve inherited.” You see that you’re a joint heir with Jesus, you’re the righteousness of God, you’re a new creation, and you’ve been redeemed.

You think, “Glory to God! How can I lose?” But you may go out the next day and face the circumstances of life and forget what manner of man you are unless you make the choice to act on what the Word of God says about you.

Just like the Israelites in the wilderness. When they got to the border of the Promised Land, the spies went out to check things out, one group came back with a negative report, and it spread throughout the people.

After everything God did for them, He split the Red Sea, gave them food and water, fire by night and a cloud by day. God told them I’m giving you this land now go and take it.

But they didn’t see themselves as conquerors to take the land but grasshoppers that could be smashed by the enemy. They saw themselves as slaves and defeated.  They chose not to see themselves as God saw them, as winners.

Winners in life are doers of the Word. And doers of the Word are blessed in what they do.
