One Talent Servant

Matthew 25:24-25 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.  And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.”

What caused him not to step out? What caused him not to use what God had given him? Fear. Lord, you are a hard man, and I was scared.

The servants with the five and the two talents were serving the same Master. They didn’t get scared and go bury their money. No, they went and doubled their money, made a profit and were successful. They were confident and believed they could please the Lord. They knew the Lord was good and would help them.

But the one talent servant believed lies about the Lord and responded in fear. Lord, You are a hard man and I was scared.

When the devil lies to you and you listen, he’s got you in a trap. But that’s what he wants for you, to be afraid to step out and do anything for God. To be paralyzed with fear and do nothing.

So, what happened to the servant with the one talent.

Matthew 25:28,30 So the Master ordered, take the talent from him and give it to him who has ten talents.  And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness where he will cry and wail over his stupidity.

And all the time the one talent servant is saying, “You can’t please him anyway, he’s a hard man.”  He knew in his heart he was wrong and never chose to change.
